Section 508 was introduced to help ensure federal agencies provide equal access to technology for those with disabilities – both federal employees and the public. Under Section 508, agencies are required to eliminate any barriers that people with disabilities may encounter as they use information technologies to access information. Section 508 also promotes the development of new tools and technologies to help ensure equitable electronic accessibility for employees and the public. This course outlines the key Section 508 requirements that federal agencies must follow.
