The capability to use centralized call-processing devices that are located at remote sites depends on the availability of Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) at the main site. To provide these devices with a backup, you can use Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP) fallback and Cisco Unified Survivable Remote Site Telephony (SRST).
This course describes the mechanisms for providing call survivability and device failover in remote sites. It describes how to configure Cisco IOS routers as Cisco Unified SRST gateways and how to use Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express (CUCME) in Cisco Unified SRST mode.

Examining Remote Site Redundancy Options

  • describe remote site redundancy options
  • select an appropriate remote site call preservation configuration for a particular scenario
  • describe the functions of Cisco Unified SRST and MGCP fallback
  • identify dial plan requirements for MGCP fallback and Cisco Unified SRST
  • Implementing SRST and MGCP Fallback

  • recognize the functions of Cisco Unified SRST configuration commands
  • recognize how to configure SRST at the Cisco IOS router
  • recognize how to configure a CUCM dial plan to work with Cisco Unified SRST
  • identify the requirements for communication between phones in SRST mode
  • identify the commands to configure dial plans on Cisco IOS routers for a particular scenario
  • recognize the configuration of a standalone dial plan configuration for a Cisco IOS router that is enabled with Cisco Unified SRST
  • Cisco Unified CM Express SRST Implementation

  • identify the features of standalone unified CME and unified CM and unified CME in SRST mode
  • recognize the new features of Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express Release 8.0
  • describe the functions of basic CUCME configuration commands
  • identify the considerations for configuring MOH in Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express
  • describe the commands used to configure CUCME to support SRST fallback
