ICND1 3.0: Mastering IPv4 Addressing and Subnetting

Anyone, from junior to senior network administrators, who is responsible for the configuration, maintenance, verification, and troubleshooting of Cisco IOS Routers and Switches.

Prerequisite
None

Expected Duration
182 minutes

Description
You will be able to efficiently determine appropriate IPv4 addressing for a network infrastructure without needing a subnet calculator. This course focuses on IPv4 addressing and subnetting. It will describe the concept of borrowing bits, how to determine the number of subnets created and the available hosts for each subnet, as well as how to identify the network ID, the directed broadcast address, and the usable IPv4 addresses for any given subnet. It will also describe the importance of VLSM (Variable-length Subnet Masking).

Objective

Mastering IPv4 Subnetting

  • start the course
  • describe the IPv4 addressing challenges
  • implement subnetting as a solution
  • describe what subnet mask is required
  • describe the purpose of the subnet mask
  • prepare classful masks
  • describe borrowed bits
  • implement using borrowed bits
  • implement calculating the number of subnets
  • describe the subnets-created chart
  • describe subnetting drawbacks
  • describe how many hosts in each subnet
  • implement calculating usable addresses
  • describe the subnetting example
  • describe subnet IDs
  • implement calculating the usable range
  • describe block size
  • describe block size method 1
  • implement using block size method 1
  • describe block size method 2
  • compare block size
  • implement identifying subnets
  • describe the full analysis of the subnets
  • describe addressing a broadcast domain
  • implement addressing a broadcast domain

Practice: Identify Proper IPv4 Addressing

  • use proper IPv4 addressing in a network

Understanding IP Addressing and Subnets

  • implement variable-length subnet masking
