Established IT professionals who wish to acquire job skills and knowledge in OpenStack cloud software

Expected Duration
159 minutes

OpenStack is a collaboration between cloud technology experts and developers, resulting in a highly scalable open standard cloud operating system. OpenStack cloud environments can be used for both private and public clouds and depend on a set of core components. This course introduces the OpenStack Cloud offering, cloud service features, and provides some background on the OpenStack Project and Release Cycle. The course presents the logical architecture and provides an introduction to the various project components that work together as part of the OpenStack cloud. This course also looks at the planning and deployment of OpenStack, including components such as OpenStack Block Storage, images, instances, OpenStack Compute, installation packages, Controller Services, database services, and orchestration services.

Introducing OpenStack Cloud Services

  • start the course
  • define the origin of the OpenStack project and the key programming languages used
  • describe the OpenStack release cycle
  • describe key cloud service features
  • identify the types of cloud service and describe OpenStack IaaS
  • characterize the types of cloud offerings including private, public, and hybrid clouds

Understanding OpenStack Components

  • identify the components of OpenStack and define the logical relationship between components
  • identify the features of the Compute OpenStack component, including key processes and functions involved in handling end user API requests
  • identify the components and characteristics of OpenStack Identity Services
  • manage cloud service resources using OpenStack Dashboard
  • describe the object store (Swift) architecture
  • deploy OpenStack Block Storage solution
  • manage networking capabilities for the cloud infrastructure
  • describe the image store (Glance) architecture
  • identify features of OpenStack Heat and Ceilometer

Deploying the OpenStack Cloud

  • define the process of and key nodes in an OpenStack deployment
  • differentiate between images and instances
  • configuring volumes services and describe classes of block storage
  • manage the cloud service processes using OpenStack Compute
  • list common package installation options available
  • install OpenStack Compute
  • performing an initial OpenStack Compute configuration, including setup of image services
  • install OpenStack Controller Services
  • install and configuration OpenStack Orchestration
  • install OpenStack Image Service components
  • configure and verify the OpenStack Image Service component
  • configure Database Services for the OpenStack Compute node
  • install and configuration OpenStack Orchestration

Practice: Deploy OpenStack Services

  • identify and match features of the OpenStack cloud services components
