Packet forwarding and routing are the fundamental functions of layer 3 network devices, and Junos OS includes sophisticated routing functionality. This course covers layer 3 basics, routing and packet forwarding, routing methodologies, and how to configure basic routing in Junos OS. This course is one of a series of Skillsoft courses that cover the objectives for Juniper Networks exam JN0-102. This exam completes the requirement for the certification Juniper Networks Certified Associate – Junos (JNCIA-Junos).

Packet Forwarding

  • start the course
  • describe the packet forwarding and routing functions of layer 3 devices, such as routers
  • describe the packet forwarding function

Routing Methodologies

  • describe static routing and how and where it is used
  • describe techniques for dynamic routing, and the advantages of dynamic routing
  • describe distance vector dynamic routing protocols, such as RIP
  • describe link-state routing protocols, such as OSPF

Routing Tables

  • describe the features and function of routing tables on routing devices
  • contrast routing tables and forwarding tables
  • describe preference values for routes, how they are used, and default values
  • describe how and why you would use multiple routing instances on a routing device

Configuring Basic Routing

  • view forwarding tables on Junos OS devices
  • view routing tables on Junos OS devices
  • configure static routes on Junos OS devices
