VMware NSX Network Virtualization: Technology and Architecture

Virtual network administrators data center operatives who already possess core networking skills

Prerequisite
None

Expected Duration
187 minutes

Description
The architecutre of VMware NSX enables it to overcome many challenges and bottlenecks of traditional physical networks. This course covers the benefits of NSX, its architecture, and different network and security technologies used. It goes on to contrast physical and logical network topologies, and finishes with a discussion on integration with third party products and services. This course is one of a series of Skillsoft courses that cover the objectives for VMware certification exam VCA-NV: VMware Certified Professional – Network Virtualization.

Objective

NSX Benefits

  • start the course
  • identify challenges within a physical network interface
  • define common terms used in VMware NSX
  • describe and differentiate functions and services performed by VMware NSX
  • describe common use cases for VMware NSX

NSX Architecture

  • identify the components of the VMware NSX stack
  • identify common topologies of physical networks
  • describe a basic VMware NSX topology
  • differentiate functional services delivered by a VMware NSX stack

VMware Network and Security

  • identify upgrade requirements for ESXi hosts
  • identify steps required to upgrade a vSphere implementation
  • describe core vSphere networking technologies
  • describe vCloud Networking and Security technologies
  • describe and differentiate VMware NSX for vSphere and VMware NSX for third-party hypervisors

Physical and Virtual Networks

  • differentiate between logical and physical topologies
  • differentiate between logical and physical components such as switches and routers
  • differentiate between logical and physical services such as firewall and network address translation
  • differentiate between physical and logical security constructs

NSX Third-Party Integration

  • describe VMware NSX integration with third-party hypervisors
  • describe VMware NSX integration with third-party cloud automation products and services
  • describe VMware NSX integration with third-party network and security services
  • describe VMware NSX integration with third-party hardware including network interface cards and terminating overlay networks
  • manually register and install a third-party service with NSX

vCAC Integration

  • describe VMware NSX integration with vCloud Automation Center
  • describe VMware NSX deployment capabilities built into vCloud Automation Center
  • list VMware NSX components that can be pre-created using vCloud Automation Center
  • describe Network Profiles available in vCloud Automation Center
  • list VMware NSX preparation tasks that must be completed prior to attaching a network profile to a blueprint, and vCloud Automation Center preparation tasks that must be completed prior to deploying a machine with on-demand network services

Practice: NSX Architecture

  • describe the components and architecture on VMware NSX
