Basic Cisco Campus Switching Design Considerations

This course is included in our On-demand training solution.

Overview

To provide an overview of the general technologies used in campus switching design and the various campus network design models used

Target Audience

Network engineers, network system analysts, and maintenance personnel responsible for designing small to medium-sized and enterprise networks; individuals seeking the Cisco Certified Design Associate (CCDA) certification and those individuals targeting towards the Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP) certification

Prerequisites

The knowledge and skills contained in the Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices (ICND) and CCNA Basics learning paths; a good foundation in the principles and concepts of networks and computers; familiarity with internetworking technologies

Expected Duration

200 min.

Course Objectives

Basic Cisco Campus Switching Design Considerations

  • identify the characteristics of transmission media and segmentation technology in a campus network.
  • determine enterprise traffic patterns inside the enterprise campus network and determine a draft design based on the collected geographic information.
  • identify the Layer 2 and Layer 3 enterprise campus characteristics and identify the enhancements which reduce STP convergence times.
  • identify network traffic patterns and solutions and list multicast traffic considerations for enterprise campus design.
  • identify the role of QoS in guaranteeing bandwidth to business critical applications.
  • identify the main considerations for the design of Building and Campus Backbone submodules.
  • identify the main considerations when designing the Server Farm module and for connectivity to the rest of the network.
  • propose the redundant campus design for a given network scenario.
  • recognize the benefits of using a switched LAN solution compared to a shared LAN solution in a given scenario.
  • differentiate between using L2 and L3 switching solutions in the enterprise campus.
