Cisco CIPT1 6.0: Gateways, Routing, and Digit Manipulation

This course is included in our On-demand training solution.

Overview

Cisco Unified Communications Manager automatically routes calls to destinations within the same cluster. However, in order to enable off-net calls, such as calls to the public switched telephone network (PSTN), gateways have to be implemented and special dial plan requirements have to be considered. The dial plan is one of the key elements of an IP telephony system, as it defines the rules that govern how a user reaches any destination. This course describes the role and implementation of Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP) gateways in providing PSTN access to a Cisco Unified Communications Manager environment. This course also describes how to configure numbering plans, directory numbers, route groups, route lists, route patterns, route filters, digit analysis, as well as urgent priority for placing public switched telephone network (PSTN) calls. Digit manipulation tools that allow a Cisco Unified Communications Manager administrator to implement flexible and transparent dial plans are also covered. This course is one of a series from two SkillSoft learning paths, which cover the objectives for Cisco exam 642-446 CIPT. This exam is one of five required qualifying exams for the CCVP (Cisco Certified Voice Professional) certification.

Target Audience

The primary audience for this learning path is network designers, network administrators, network engineers, network managers, and system engineers; individuals seeking the Implementing Cisco Unified Communications IP Telephony certification and those individuals targeting the Cisco Certified Voice Professional (CCVP) certification.

Prerequisites

Working knowledge of fundamental concepts of computer networking including LANs, WANs, and IP switching and routing; ability to configure and operate Cisco routers and switches and to enable VLANs and DHCP; fundamental knowledge of converged voice and data networks; working knowledge of MGCP and its implementation on Cisco IOS gateways; Cisco CCNA, Building Cisco Multilayer Switched Networks (BCMSN) v3.0, and Cisco Voice Over IP (CVOICE) v6.0.

Expected Duration
